Clarendon Water Recreation Project

We’re almost there! As of March, more than $253,000 has already been committed to build a water park in Clarendon. That’s more than half way to the goal of matching the $500,000 challenge grant put up by an anonymous benefactor!

Now, you can help us finish the job and make the dreams of hundreds of kids a reality. The goal is to raise $500,000 by May 1, 2017, to match our benefactor’s challenge and use the combined $1 million to apply for matching money from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.  One stipulation of our benefactor is that half of the funds raised to meet the challenge must come from inside Donley County. We need every donation we can get, whether big or small, to achieve this goal.

The city’s Water Recreation Steering Committee, comprised of civic leaders, parents,  and grandparents, have worked with WatersEdge to develop plans for a $2 million recreation area that will be built at Fourth and Kearney Streets, east of the Post Office. The proposed facility would have more than 4,000 square feet of water surface area and would provide something for all ages… lap lanes, a diving area, play areas, splash and spray areas, and more.

Please review the water recreation center plans pictured here; and if you have questions, feel free to contact City Administrator David Dockery at 806.874.3438 or one of the members of our fundraising committee.

Donations to this project can be made to Clarendon Water Recreation Project, c/o City Administrator David Dockery, PO Box 1089, Clarendon, Texas 79226. Donations will be held in an escrow account until the benefactor’s challenge is met and then will be transferred to the Amarillo Area Foundation and become tax deductible under 501(c)3 rules.
